From Acorn Lodge it’s approximately a 40 minute walk to Cockington, this is a very easy, pleasant walk. Once there if refreshments are required you have a few options, our favourites are either the Tea Gardens where you can be entertained by the piano player or the Drum Inn. Both serve excellant food and drinks.
Turn right out of the gate at Acorn Lodge and head toward Bampfylde Road, turn right at Bampfylde and head down the hill towards Avenue Road, turn left and head towards Torre Abbey (its probably easiest to cross the road to the right hand pavement at the junction of Bampfylde and Avenue Roads rather than cross at the traffic lights.
Head towards the sea front passing Torre Abbey which will be on your left
After you have passed the Abbey take the small path on the right hand side and walk down by the steam to the pond. When you reach the main road at the seafront turn left towards the Grand Hotel. Continue up the hill past the Grand towards the Livermead Hotel, at the end of the grounds of the Livermead you will see a sign post pointing towards Cockington, turn right into Cockington Lane
Follow the footpath with the stream on your righthand side
Along the pathway you will find areas where you can look for wildlife in the ponds and stream
As you continue along the path you will find a small weir and
Fun for the kids
logs made into stepping stones across the stream, fun for kids young and old!
As you come to the end of the footpath you will find a small bridge and stile, going out onto the road turn right to head into Cockington village
Take care walking along the road as it is very narrow and has two way traffic, admire the beautiful cottages and continue past the Tea Gardens into the centre of the village. From the village centre you can continue up the road to Gatehouse, grounds and main house or go through the back of the shops towards the Drum Inn.
To access the main house and grounds from the Drum Inn follow the footpath across the board walk from the shops instead of heading up to the Drum Inn
